Authentic Assessment
1. Have students balance
a checkbook. First, you will give
all the students a register of their own.
Then you give them a narrative of what needs to go in the
checkbook. For example, you start
of with 50 dollars in your checkbook; you go to Wal-Mart and spend $5.35. You earn 10 dollars for mowing the
lawn. Have your students record
this information in the checkbook and do the math.
2. Within your classroom
create a store. There will be some
students who are cashiers and some who are shoppers (you can change them around
each time). The students who shop
will be given money, they will need to purchase items within their means. The cashiers will have to count money
back to the customers. This will
be a fun activity as well as a real life experience.
