1) Ask the
children who the President of the United States is. Discuss some of the jobs
the president has. Explain to the students that your going to have your own
campaign in your classroom (Reserve the computer lab). Ask the students to type
up a letter with reasons why people should vote for them for President. (May continue this lesson in Art and
have students create their own campaigning material).
2) Have a movie
that deals with something that has happened to us as a country that the
president has had to deal with (ex: September 11th, Pearl Harbor,
etc). You can choose to watch the whole video or only parts/clips. After
watching ask the children to come up with a plan of how they would deal with
that situation, go to the computer lab and have them type their plan up. Once
the students have completed their plan have them share their plan with the
class and discuss how the rest of the country would deal with that plan or
decision of the president. Afterwards discuss how the president really dealt
with it and how we as the people handled it.
3) Have the children create an Inspiration project dealing with a government official of their choice. Explain to them that the government official they choose needs to be in the center and then have them do research about that official and include things about him.
