Dictionary Ideas for 5^th Grade Art

1. Students create a web page dictionary. For each new word that they encounter, they add it to a school web page including the word, its definition, and at least one clip that represents the word. For example, if the word was ‘waltz’, students might add a sound clip of waltz music and/or an animated clip of people waltzing.

2. Students design a 26-page book style dictionary with poster-board. For each letter, the students create a different representation of that letter at the top of the page. For example, the letter ‘A’ might be painted in watercolor with words such as alignment and axial below with their respective definitions. The letter ‘B’ would be represented on the next page in a collage with the word ‘ballet’ and its definition below, and so on.
