Math Fluency
|
Standard 6 Objective 1: Learn new
words through listening and reading widely 1.
One way to help with fluency in
Math is by having your students make flash cards of vocabulary words
and terms you are using for each chapter.

Another
way
you can help with a child's fluency is by having them learn the symbols in Math. For
example you can have a "Math Wall"
with different symbols. This way they
will know the terms for symbols in Math and even understand word
problems
better because of this. You could
also make blocks with the different symbols in Math and have the
students say
out loud what the Math problem is asking you to do through the symbols
(for
example; 5 + 4 = 9, and they would say five plus four equals nine).

Another
way
you could help students with fluency would be by having them read with
expression. This not only can be
done with word problems, but also by distinguishing and sounding out
words. You can emphasize a word
more by understanding the property of even the symbol.
