Re-illustrate, Add a chapter, Write your own
A station is created with paper (lined, blank, and construction), crayons, markers, pencils (regular and colored), pens, scissors, glue, books, computer, anything that will allow a child to express his thought and imaginations to paper. These items will allow a child to participate in the following activities.
Re-illustrate:
Have a child read a picture book or an un-illustrated story and then make allow him to draw his own illustrations to the story. These illustrations can be in loose leaf form or actually made into a book using a variety of methods from stapling the top or sides of the pages to folding the papers in half and gluing them in the middle.
Add a Chapter:
Here the students read a story and then write their own chapter to add to some part of the book whether it be a preface, somewhere in the middle ore even expanding or making a whole new ending to the book. It would be great for the students to share these with other classmates also.
Write your own:
Below is a plan found at teachervision.com that shows how to make a variety of books. Use one of these book outlines to help children create their own story book. The theme of the book can be determined by the child or one can be assigned such as a recess adventure, memorable moment, what friends do together, and so on.
