Social Studies Manipulations:

  1. Maps:  A variety of maps will be used during instruction and other activities to allow the students to visualize where different areas of the world are located in relation to where they live.
  2. Puzzles:  Each student will be given a map of the United States, which they can color.  Then they will cut it to make their own puzzle of the United States that they can refer to throughout the year.
  3. Cubes:  Each child will be given a cube, depending on their learning level, and it will provide them instructions for specific projects and activities.  For example, students with blue cubes will represent those in the higher learning levels and they will be given more complex tasks.  Students with red cubes will represent those in the lower learning level and they will have easier tasks. Be sure to keep the groups mixed up so that no child will feel they are supreior or inferior to another.
