Comprehension Strategies

A. Standard VII, Objective 2-g

Have the students read a book and summarize what the story is about. Have them summarize the important ideas/events and have them summarize supporting details in sequence.

B.

Using the character the students read about, have them re-write a story using the same characters and their characteristics. Have them share them with the rest of the students.

C.

The teacher will give a title or topic to the students. The students will have to create a story according the title or topic. They will present their story in front of the class.

D. Standard VII, Objective 2-d

To start out, have the students look at the title and the front cover of the book. Have them predict what is going to happen in the book. Write their predictions on the chalkboard or whiteboard. After each page you read, have them make more predictions and also cross off the predictions that weren’t right.
