Interest Inventory Questions  

 

1.   Do you learn from using media?  i.e. newspapers, pictures, posters, charts, ads, graphs, videos, slideshows.  If so, what kind?

 

2.   If you were to read aloud in class, would you rather read in front of the whole class, a small group, or not at all?

 

3.   What resources have you used in the past to determine the meanings of unknown words?  i.e. dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses.

 

4.   Do you know what synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms are?  Give an example of each.

 

5.   What kind of things would help you understand a text?  i.e. pictures, identifying parts, summarizing, generating questions.

 

6.   What kind of things help you come up with ideas for writing?

 

7.   Would you rather have your papers edited by your peers, your teacher, or yourself?

 

8.   What part of a story do you have the hardest time identifying:  characters, setting, sequence of events, problem/resolution, or theme?

 

9.   Can you identify meanings of words using Greek and Latin roots and affixes?

 

10.               When you read, can you do it fluently or do you have to stop and think about words?
