Authentic
Assessments
1.
Ask the students to get in groups and build a model of a home that
has a secret hiding place using toothpicks, popsicle sticks, glue, and
newspaper. The house doesnÕt have
to look like Anne FrankÕs; it should be the groupÕs original design. After the models have been constructed
each group will take turns explaining their model to the class, and why it
would help someone like Anne Frank hide.
2. Invite the students to keep a
class diary. Before the students
leave for school each day have them write in their journal. At the end of the
week have each student write a letter as if they were Anne Frank. This letter should be as if it were her
last while in the concentration camp.
In the letter students should include what she has learned from the
experience of hiding with her family, things she would have done different,
what she hopes future children can learn from her. Invite those who are comfortable to share their letter with
the class.
