Assessment

            1. Formative assessment should take place daily to see if students are learning what is being taught.  A fun game to play is called Bang!  This game is played with items written on slips of paper, items such as the signs which represent periods, capitals, commas, semicolons, etc. You could also write incorrect sentences on the slips of paper and place them into a box or can.  Students will take turns, in groups, pulling slips of paper from the can.  After drawing a slip from the can the student must correct the error within the sentence.  If the student can’t fix the error they must return the slip back into the box or can.  If the student can correct the sentence he/she can keep it and it give them one point.  This continues for a set amount of time after which you determine a winner.  The person with the most slips wins.  However there is a catch to this activity.  You will insert three slips of paper that are in close size to the slips with sentences written on them only these slips will have the word BANG written on them.  If at any time a student draws one of these slips, he/she must put all the slips previously gained back into the can/box. This should be a good assessment to see where students are in he learning process.

            2. Reviews should be done daily to see progress.  As a summative test students should write a two page paper with guide lines telling them what they must use in the paper.  Items will include, but are not limited to, commas, semicolons, colons, and periods.  It is also necessary to include a rubric of paragraph structure and format of the paper.  Include any necessary elements you feel are valid to test on.
