Manipulative Materials for Literacy

1. Scrabble is a very good manipulative to use in your classroom. Scrabble develops vocabulary, spelling, and spatial related skills. It not only helps students to learn new and correct words, but it makes students think and gets their minds moving.

2. Word Yahtzee can also be played in the classroom too. It can help the child recognize words, and expand their word vocabulary.

3. Having your students put together their own crossword puzzle with their spelling words can be a fun and affective way to learn. After each of the students has completed their crossword have them exchange with a partner and complete the puzzle. This way the student is learning the definitions of the words and working on the spelling of the words also.
