Reading Endorsement Comparison of Old and New Professional
Reading Endorsements
August 2003 – Voted to go into effect August 2004
All K-12 educators desiring a Level I/Basic Reading Endorsement will need to take courses that meet the IRA Standards. However, an elementary educator will receive an elementary reading endorsement while a secondary educator will receive a secondary reading endorsement. The courses for secondary educators should recognize the need to apply the standards to characteristics of the adolescent learner. This recognition is reflected in suggested course titles.
