*Our plan for an authentic book report is to have the student select their favorite part of the book, or a part that stuck out to them. The student would then be able to create some kind of activity that portrayed their part of choice. For example, a student has just finished the book Stories from Wayside School. I could choose to create a school that looked like Wayside. It could be a picture on paper, or it could be an actual freestanding object. I would then fill in with the part of the boy who wore a raincoat and never talked. When the teacher called him up to the front of the class and mad him take off his coat he actually had layers and layers of raincoats. When they got through all the layer of raincoats the class found out he was actually a rat.

*Another idea
would be to have a class binder where the students could go to write
recommendations about the book they had just read. The binder would have the recommendation sheets already
inside, the students would just have to fill in the spaces. They would have to tell the name of
book, author, good part, a part they didnŐt like, and if they would recommend
it. There would also be a section
where the students could add comments.
This was anyone in the class could read their recommendations and find
out if they wanted to read it. It
would also excite the kids to have something of theirs that everyone would
read.
