Four Lesson Plan Ideas for Authentic Writing Assignments in the Reading Curriculum

1. Read a book but do not finish the ending. Have the students create their own ending. Share the students different ideas as a class and then read the real ending.

2. Read a story with a topic. (Ex: animals) After reading the story have the students write their own story using the same topic.

3. Show a picture and have the students write down their feelings, descriptions, and what is taking place in the picture.

4. Read a story and have the students pick a favorite character in the book and write a description on why it is their favorite character.
