Writing Assignments
#1 Island Weather
Group
Activity: The students are on an island and they need to build a shelter. They
need to think about and write down where they will build the shelter and why.
They will need to think about all the different types of weather that could
affect them during the course of a year. After the studentsÕ story is complete
they will share their story with the class.
#2 Poetry about the
Weather
The students will write a
poem about a type of weather that affects them and how they feel. The poem will
be open structured to allow choice for the students. The students will share
their poems with the class.
#3 Sensory Writing
Have
students describe a picture (any picture pertaining to science). The teacher
will direct the writing by asking the students questions about what they smell,
feel, see, hear, taste, and experience.
After this process is complete the students will use their descriptive
passages to write a story about that topic.
#4 Research/Informational
Writing
The
students will research information about how the weather helps us or hurts us.
They will write an informational paper of maximum two pages that includes the
information they found. When the
paper is complete the class will publish a collection of everyoneÕs assignment
into a book. This will be a great
way for the students to have a in class reference of weather.
