Writing Assignments

1. Have students write a letter to a student in another country. The students can write in their letters about the country they live in and ask questions about their pen pal’s country. They could even tell them what they have read about their country and ask if it is really like that.

If it is possible to have it arranged, you can send the letters and start a constant communication with your students and their pen pal, if not able you could just have the letters posted in the class.

2. Have children write a invitation to go on an African safari. They need to tell their guests the description of the location, what they need to bring and wear due to weather and what they might encounter. They could also describe what animals they are going to see and what else they might expect.

You could have the students mail the letters through the school mail or post around the room.

You could turn the room into the African continent and take the students on the safari encounter the things talked about in the invitation
