Authentic Writing Assignments

#1- We can create a list of the different cultures associated with Japan, Mexico, and Africa and have each student choose one of the customs that have an interest to them. Students can then write a short story of what it would be like to participate in that culture. This can be fun for students and will help them use what they have learned and also their imagination to come up with an interesting story.

#2- The teacher will assign students into small groups. Each group will be given a place and a subject related to that specific country. We will then begin by one students writing a beginning paragraph to the story and then when the teacher calls time it will then switch to the next person. Students are encouraged to work together, but it is important that each student gets their own writing time. This can continue until all the students have had their turn or until the teacher tells them to end.
