Comprehension Strategies

Since most
students will not understand what it is like to live
in another state
or country, to help students comprehend what
it might be like
be like, we will watch video clips of people living in
other counties. We
will note the differences we see (such as clothing,
houses, and food)
we will then have a discussion and talk about
what each student
noticed. We will then, put this information
with the other
activities we have done in class to help broaden
our understanding
of other countries.

Another activity
we can do to help with comprehension
would be to have
students sit in a circle, we will have
a small ball,
which the students will pass around the
circle. To begin
the teacher will call out something from
the unit the students have learned. Then
the student
with the ball
respond with something about that subject,
pass the ball to
someone else, and the activity continues
until all areas
have been covered. This will help review
the material as
well as help students
comprehend a
little more.
