2 Authentic Assessments

An initial part of learning music is learning musical notes.  After learning what the notes are, have the students come up with an acronym to help them remember the notes.  The traditional ÒEÓvery ÒGÓood ÒBÓoy ÒDÓoes ÒFÓine can be used as an example.  Give the students sometime or a day to come up with there own acronym and then have a quiz to see if they know the notes. Ask them also to write down their acronym.

Another part of learning about music is learning about all the different types of music.  Many younger students could find this interesting if a few examples are provided.  A teacher can expose them to classical, country, rock, etcÉ  After listening to different types, give the students a homework assignment, of going home and listening to as many different stations on the radio as they could find, and writing down the different kinds of music they hear as well as which ones they liked and disliked.
