Third Grade Book Report Ideas

 

These two book report ideas correspond with the Utah State Core Curriculum for Third Grade, Standard 7: Comprehension-Students understand, interpret, and analyze narrative and informational grade level text.

 

Hanging Mobile

 

Students create a hanging mobile based on a book they have read.  The items that hang from the mobile include illustrations of the following items:

 

Characters

Setting

Genre

 

Other hanging items may include short sentences that address the following items:

 

Main Idea

Detail

AuthorŐs Purpose

StudentŐs Response

 

Timeline

 

On a poster-sized chart, students create a timeline in a format of their choice.  (Several options should be modeled.)  Timeline should include an appropriate number of entries that summarize the main ideas and details of the text in sequence.  Students should include several illustrations that deal with characters or setting.

 

Students also should write and illustrate their response to the text, showing one connection they made to the text while reading.
