This website is so fun!  It contains links to poets that kids can really connect to like Jack Prelutsky.  Children can hear poems online or create a poem in the ÒPoetry Idea Engine.Ó  This will help develop their writing skills in the poetry genre through technology.

To assist students in phonics decoding methods, teachers can create a short story using the Hyperstudio.  Teachers can create a short story, correlating with the bird theme or not, that uses the blended consonants that the students are studying.  Hyperstudio is a great tool for decoding because sounds can be recorded.  Students then use an actual text, one that targets their background knowledge, to learn to appropriately decode new sounds using phonics.  Teachers should use real sentences with new vocabulary.  When students click on the new vocabulary, they will see the consonant blend (for example, ÒBRÓ) appear, and then they will hear the sound.  Students should then repeat the sounds aloud.  To reinforce this new knowledge, students should also encounter these new sounds in vocabulary in subsequent pages.

Standard 4: Phonics and Spelling-Students apply understanding of phonics and other strategies to decode and spell unfamiliar words while reading and writing.
