Venues for Sharing
Student Work
Some students enjoy sharing their writing with
other students. It is nice to have
a special place where students can feel comfortable sharing their work. Creating this special spot, called a
sharing venue, will be beneficial, not only to the students sharing their work,
but also to the students listening because they can get more involved in the
learning process. A sharing venue
can come in all different shapes and sizes as long as itŐs a good learning
environment.
Example:
Theme - Fun in the Sun
In one corner of your classroom there
will be items that are found on a beach, such as a beach ball, beach towels, a
sun chair, an umbrella, sand (sand box), a shovel, a bucket, (paper) palm
trees, and (paper) the sun. When it is sharing time, the person that is
sharing will sit on the sun chair while the other students are sitting on the
beach towels facing the sharing-time person.
Other Examples:
Students can create a presentation illustrating what they have
learned in a section or chapter. They could add commentary to reinforce
what they learned.
The popular
method of folding and cutting so that opening pages causes part of the page to
move or poke out in an unexpected manner might be an interesting way to
reinforce a concept.
Computer-generated decals containing student art work may be ironed
on wearing apparel.
Art projects or songs can be glued to long sheets of paper rolled
on wooden dowels so that they resemble ancient scrolls.
Students can
put on a concert for their peers and parents to perform the songs the students
have been working on over the semester.
