Standard 5, Objective 4-Teaching fractions, decimals, and percents

Interest Inventory

This is a simple inventory you, as a teacher, can give your class to determine the status of where they are in relation to the knowledge they need to know for this standard and objective for mathematics.

First, start with an introduction about pizza, maybe a good story about how pizza is made.  Then hand out this inventory.

  1. What do you like on your pizza?
  2. How many pieces of pizza are in a pizza?
  3. How many pieces of pizza can you eat?
  4. What fraction of the pizza is that?
  5. What percent of the pizza is that?
  6. How much pizza is left over?
  7. If 1/2 of the pizza has only pepperoni, 1/4 of the pizza has only olives and 1/8 of the pizza has only sausage, how much of the pizza has only cheese?
  8. What percent of the pizza has only cheese?
  9. How much pizza will be left over if everyone in your group eats one piece of pizza?
  10. Write that fraction in decimal form.

**It may be exciting to actually bring in the pizza and go over each problem with the students.
