Balloon Pop!

Purpose: This is a pre-assessment activity that will aid the teacher in determining students’ prior knowledge.

To introduce science to the students, the teacher can use relevant vocabulary words that will be studied throughout the year.  These vocabulary words should be printed onto strips of paper and put into several balloons. Students can take turns popping the balloons to discover the vocabulary word or theme inside. Students will then be divided into groups where they will discuss their words/themes and record their findings.
