Comprehension Strategies
Example:
This is a painting by Georgia OÕKeefe. This painter is known for painting desert pictures and flowers. When the children paint their own picture they may paint a desert scene which is similar to what Georgia OÕKeefe is most famous for. The other students within the class should be able to guess which painter the other students are representing based on the images that they have painted within their own painting.

á Some may cast shadows as darker directly under the object casting them.
á Shadows that overlap
á What type of surface the shadow falls on and how the picture should vary accordingly.
á Highlights, halftone, shadow side, shadow edge, and reflected light to shade objects.
4. After they have read a book have them create a picture based on what they have read. At the bottom of the picture have them write a summary how they would have changed this scene in the book. They may draw the picture of their changed scene or the same as the book.
Example: If they were reading Harry Potter and they drew a scene of Harry and Malfoy battling they may change the scene to show Malfoy winning instead of Harry. They would write how the scene is different from that in the book.
