DNA ASSESSMENTS

Assessment #1 : The students will be in four groups.  Each group will have a set of index cards to match.  One set of cards, will have vocabulary words or pictures relating to the DNA structure.  On the other set of cards will be the definition of the vocabulary words or an explanation of pictures.  Students will match these up according to their knowledge.

 

Example Index Cards:

Card one-Purine Bases

Card two-Adenine and guanine.  The larger of the two types of bases found in DNA.

 

Objective:  The students will be able to identify and to recognize the vocabulary words related to DNA. Working together in groups will help them to interact and learn from each others previous knowledge. 

Assessment #2: Students will be given pictures of different habitats and will be required to give characteristics of at least five animals that would survive in such a habitat and why. 

 

Example: 

Habitat-Africa

Animals-Giraffe, Lion, Elephant, Zebra, and Cheetah.

Why-Cheetahs camouflage with the grass, run quickly to catch their prey, etc.

 

Objective:  Students will hypothesis traits for specific environments that are likely to offer an advantage for survival
