T. Anthony Marotta

Professional Information

T. Anthony Marotta completed his Master of Fine Arts in Performance at the University of Tennessee, and has studied the Lecoq Physical Theatre/Mask pedagogy through the London International School of Performing Arts. He has taught at the University of Tennessee and the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival, as well as taught Commedia dell’arte and mask/movement workshops regionally and internationally in English, French and Italian. He has studied and worked abroad in England, France, Italy, Russia, and Germany. In addition to extensive film, television and stage work, Anthony is a certified actor‐combatant, and recipient of the 2005‐2006 Emily Mahan Faust Fellowship. Anthony is also a mask sculptor and creator and has studied with theatre mask sculpting legend Donatello Sartori in Padua, Italy in the art of leather, paper‐mache’ and clay mask creation and performance. Currently a professor of Mask and Movement and director within the department’s season, he has designed a series of commedia dell’arte, expression, and neutral masks that he uses together with principles of devised theatre in all of his classes and rehearsals.
