Course
Objectives: Students will gain an understanding of: 1) the
history and development of microbiology and the scientific methods
utilized in medical sciences, 2) the basic principles of chemistry and
cell anatomy, 3) the basic principles of photosynthesis and
respiration, 4) industrial applications of microbiology, 5) Role of
microorganisms in the environment, 6) the basic principles of microbial
growth and factors affecting growth, 7) the bacterial diseases of
mankind, 8) the viral and parasitic diseases of mankind, 9) the basic
principles of epidemiology, 10) the basic principles of immunology.

Classroom
etiquette: The following behaviors are disruptive to the
classroom learning environment:
1) visiting during lectures,
2) tardiness without prior consent,
3) leaving early without prior consent (this
includes during movies),
4) confrontational behavior.
The instructor reserves the right to lower your grade for repeated
disruptive behavior.
Grading
System: Study guides can be found at the given internet address
and contain lecture and reading guides. Students will be tested
on all material from lectures and study guides. Grade will be based on
an average of test scores. (A) 94%-100%, (A-) 90%-93%, (B+)
87%-89% (B) 84%-86% (B-) 80%-83%... Points can be removed for
disruptive behavior in class.
Scholastic
dishonesty policy: Scholastic dishonesty will not be
tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. You are
expected to have read and understood the current issue of the student
handbook regarding student responsibilities and rights, and the
intellectual property policy. All assignments are to be
done individually unless otherwise instructed. Copying each
other’s assignments is plagiarism and points will be divided between
offending parties.
