Michelle Orihel is an Assistant Professor of Early American History at Southern Utah University, where she teaches courses on the early American republic, the history of journalism, and gender history. She completed her Ph.D. at Syracuse University in 2010 and is presently revising her dissertation for publication. That project focuses on how the political associations known as Democratic-Republican Societies organized the first opposition to the national government in American history. She has received several fellowships in support of her research, has presented papers at numerous academic conferences, and has published an article in The Historian.
