Text: Server+ Guide to Advanced Hardware Support, Conrad. (ISBN#0-619-06202-9)
Course Fee: There is a course fee of $30 that goes to cover printing supplies, handouts, and equipment for the hands-on and group projects done during the semester.
Course Objectives:
This course is designed to provide the students with a foundation in PC server support and administration. The student will be introduced to concepts which can be used to understand PC servers and help the student make informed decisions. The student will be introduced to numerous support topics and methods using different network operating system platforms.
Course Approach:
This course is a mixture of hands-on and lecture. The majority of class time will be spent working directly with network operating systems and PC server hardware. The text and lecture materials will serve as the major sources of information for this course. Your responsibility as the student is to read the text, attend class sessions, take thorough notes, complete assigned tasks, and complete all exams. Questions are always encouraged and welcome.
Certification:
This course prepares the student for CompTIA's broad-based, vendor-independent server certification exam, Server+. Students who pass the Server+ exam before the day of the final exam for this course will receive a minimum of 90 percent on all completed exams for this course. Students passing the Server+ exam are still expected to attend class and complete all course assignments, including in-class exams. Any exams missed and not made-up will remain a zero regardless if the Server+ exam is taken and passed.
Comfortable Learning Environment:
Students with medical, psychological, learning, or other disabilities desiring academic adjustments, accommodations, or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Southern Utan University Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), in Room 206F of the Sharwan Smith Center, phone (435)865-8022. SSD determines eligibility for and authorizes the provision of services.

Assignments:
Assignments are due on the date indicated on the assignment schedule. See below for procedures of turning in your assignments. Assignments turned in for grading are expected to be of highest quality. Proper grammar usage and correct spelling are to be used at all times. Assignments that fail to meet these standards may, at the discretion of the instructor, be returned for reworking or be given a reduced grade for substandard performance. Assignments will consist of the following:
Hands-on Projects:
These projects will be done on an individual basis and turned in individually. Only those listed on the schedule. All projects must be typed and clearly marked as to which Hands-On project it is. These projects will be turned in via WebCT.
Case Projects:
All Case projects will be done in groups. These groups will be determined the first day of class. Your group will be responsible for turning in one paper that contains the names of all the group members that worked on the project. If a group member name does not appear on the turned in copy they will not receive credit for that Case project. All projects must be typed and clearly marked as to which case project it is. These projects are to be printed off and turned in to the instructor by the end of the class period on which the assignment is due.
Group Project:
There will be one Group project that you will present at the end of the semester. Details of this project can be found here.
Quizzes:
Quizzes, both announced and unannounced, will be given throughout the semester and may cover material previously discussed or to be discussed in class that day. Students are encouraged to read and review discussion materials before class.
Attendance and Participation:
Due to the time given in class to complete Hands-On and Case projects, as well as for the group project, it is encouraged that you attend class. Attendance will be taken and this will comprise 10% of your grade.
Late Work:
Late work will be accepted within two days of the announced due date. Late work will receive an automatic grade reduction of 25%. Late work turned in after the two day grace period will not be accepted.
Make-up Exams:
Make-up exams will be given for university-approved absences or absences pre-approved by the instructor. Illness, unless the instructor is notified in advance of the exam period, is not considered justification for make-up exams. Make-up exams, when given, will be at a time convenient to the instructor. Final exams are to be taken at the designated time and place. In extreme cases the final may be taken at a different time, however, the student must pay an early exam fee to the SUU Registrar's office and a copy of the receipt must be provided to the instructor before the exam is taken.
Academic Honesty:
Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. You are expected to have read and understood the current issue of the student handbook (published by Student Services) regarding student responsibilities and rights, and the intellectual property policy, for information about procedures and about what constitutes acceptable on-campus behavior.
