Lab Permission: Periodically students will need to complete lab projects using the tools outlined in the Lab Manual for the course. These labs are permitted to be done in the classroom (ELC306), using approved targets (Student target virtual machines) in the classroom, during the course of the semester.
Note: Linux and Windows Virtual machines will be used to complete Capture-the-Flag projects.
Honeypot Project  

This project entails monitoring and maintaining a Honeypot that will be used in future CSIS Forensic classes. This project will be done through groups that will be established on the first day of class. Requirements for this project include the following:

  • Research Honeypots (ie. BOF, Specter, Honeyd, etc.).
  • Make a presentation of your research in class, as a group.
  • Monitor and maintain a Honeypot.
  • Create a web interface for your Honeypot data.
  • Gather data on attackers through your Honeypot.
  • Demonstrate your honeypot setup.
  • Present your data in class.
  • Provide a written summary of your project, this will include the following information:

  1. Honeypot software used
  2. Group member names
  3. Contribution from each group member (Peer Review)
  4. Summary of your research (e.g. What data was gathered, where attacks came from, etc.) This can be accomplished through a web dashboard, showing the data collected.
