Course Objectives:

This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge necessary to pass the A+ certification exams from CompTIA. A+ Certification is an internationally recognized level of non-vendor based computer technical competence.

Course Approach:

This course is a mix of lecture and hands-on exercises.  The text, lecture materials and the Internet will serve as the major sources of information for this course.  Your responsibility as a student is to read the text, attend class sessions, take thorough notes, complete assigned tasks, and complete all exams.  Questions are always encouraged and welcome.

Comfortable Learning Environment:

Students with medical, psychological, learning, or other disabilities desiring academic adjustments, accommodations, or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Southern Utan University Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), in Room 206F of the Sharwan Smith Center, phone (435)865-8022.  SSD determines eligibility for and authorizes the provision of services.

Grading:

Projects/Assignments:

Hands-On exercises are contained in the workbooks. Due dates will be posted on eLearning. All assignments must be saved as either a docx or odt file. Screen shots are optional, but helpful. The following must be included in each assignment write-up:

• What was done. This includes clearly identifying the assignment (e.g. Project: 1-1).
• What was learned.
• How it applies to a PC Hardware Technician.

Quizzes:

Quizzes, both announced and unannounced, will be given throughout the semester and may cover material previously discussed or to be discussed in class that day.  Students are encouraged to read and review discussion materials before class.

Late Work:

Late work will be accepted within two days of the announced due date.  Late work will receive an automatic grade reduction of 25%.  Late work turned in after the two day grace period will not be accepted.

Make-up Exams:

Make-up exams will be given for university-approved absences or absences pre-approved by the instructor.  Illness, unless the instructor is notified in advance of the exam period, is not considered justification for make-up exams.  Make-up exams, when given, will be at a time convenient to the instructor.  Final exams are to be taken at the designated time and place.  In extreme cases the final may be taken at a different time, however, the student must pay an early exam fee to the SUU Registrar's office and a copy of the receipt must be provided to the instructor before the exam is taken.
