Peter Sham

Associate chair/director of theatre for the Theatre Arts and Dance department at SUU. Peter is the book/lyricist for LEND ME A TENOR The New Musical Comedy, which is in currently under negotiation for a Broadway 2010 opening. He is the author of the musicals, TOYLAND, IT'S A DOG'S LIFE: Man’s Best Musical & WAXWORKS; and the plays, SHAKESPEARE’S MOBY DICK, a classical adaptation of Herman Melville's American masterpiece, TWINKLE, TWINKLE, “KILLER” KANE (written with William Peter Blatty “The Exorcist”), and A CHRISTMAS CAROL: ON THE AIR (written with Brad Carroll). A veteran regional actor for 30 years, he has performed at such places as The Asolo Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Studio Arena Theatre, Eastside Playhouse, Perry Street Theatre, Artpark, Yale Cabaret, and has been a principal member of the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespearean Festival for over 11 seasons. Favorite roles include: Salieri in AMADEUS, Ben Franklin in 1776, Brock in BORN YESTERDAY, and Sister Mary in SISTER MARY IGNATIUS EXPLAINS IT ALL FOR YOU. Additionally, Peter has directed over 80 productions throughout the United States, including the regional premieres of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and ‘NIGHT MOTHER. At SUU he has directed SHOOTING STARS, HENRY V, and will direct THE WIZARD OF OZ in April. As an educator, he has served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Adjunct Professor of Acting & Guest Director at Elon University in NC. Peter has served as an artistic director for Eichelberger Performing Arts Center in Hanover, PA, and Bristol Valley Playhouse in Naples, NY. He holds an MFA from the University of Delaware's nationally acclaimed Professional Theatre Training Program.
