Essay 1:  100 points

For this assignment, you will make an 4- to 5-page argument describing and defending your personal definition of success.

Essay 2: 50 points

For this assignment, you will cut or condense your 1A essay to about 500 words and submit to the “This I Believe” site and forward your e-mail submission confirmation to the professor (simon@suu.edu) by the beginning of the class period that follows the Essay 1B due date.

 

Essay  3:  What Makes Him/Her Successful?

 (50 points for your interview submission packet and 150 points for your essay)

After interviewing a professor or professional in your intended field and uploading the required interview submission packet on Canvas, you will address a specific audience with a 4-5 page cause/effect argument based on your notes..

 

GROUP Annotated Bibliography

(100 points)

For this assignment, you will work with a group to create TWO  sets of  summaries, together  totaling eight separate entries on articles in the They Say/I Say “Higher Education” unit and including at least two additional summaries drawn from academically credible, substantial and relevant articles from the SUU Library database.  Set A should draw from articles that answer the question “Is Higher Education Worth the Price” in a mostly positive way. Set B should answer that  question in mostly a negative way. Your group will write a rhetorical summary of each article choosing from the templates discussed as part of this project and adding a separate paragraph evaluating the academic credibility of the source using criteria covered in class. You will document your summaries with correct MLA parenthetical citations.  Each summary should be about 250-500 words NOT including the bibliographic entry.

Instead of uploading the document, you will turn in in a folder both sets of summaries, each  listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name, each followed by its summary.

As part of the requirement for this assignment, you will submit an  group memo  outlining the contributions of each writer and an individual memo indicating what insights you gained from this project.

You should include in your packet printouts or copies of any sources not part of your textbook’s readings. Highlight or underline any information including paraphrases, quotations, or other information that appears in your AB.

Argument Extended Outline:

(50 points)

As an individual, you will .create an 2.5– to 4-page outline for your third-person Project 5 essay, complete with introduction, thesis, reasons, and evidence documented in MLA style parenthetical citations. The outline will also include your response to relevant opposing viewpoints. You must use at least 5 sources drawn from the ones listed in your group Annotated Bibliography, with the possible addition of up to 2 more academically credible sources.

 

.Final Researched Argument Essay

(150 points)

As an individual, you will write a 4-5 page essay based on your outline. Your essay should cite at least five of the sources from your Annotated Bibliography with parenthetical citations and an MLA-style Works Cited page. Although you may add up to two additional library data base articles to help yourself support your viewpoint, you will otherwise be limited to your previously listed sources. The score for this this essay will be divided between form and content and correct use and citation of sources.

You should include in your packet printouts or copies of any sources not part of your textbook’s readings. Highlight or underline any information that appears in your paper and indicate in the margin on what essay page the material appears.
