1. BE/CIS students will pass each of their courses with a minimum grade of C-, as assessed by testing measures within each course. BE/CIS courses will include activities that enable students to demonstrate a reasonable level of proficiency in the skills learned.

Some students will be repeating courses in their major/minor in which they achieved a grade below C-.How will the results be used to improve the curriculum and/or pedagogy of the program?
This criterian has been the standard in the department for several years. As the majority of the students achieve a C- or better, the curriculum/pedagogy is consider appropriate.
2. BE/CIS students will be involved in completing secondary research and summarizing findings in ten of the courses offered through the department; in many of these courses students are required to make oral presentations about the findings.

Students did research for the ten courses indicated.
How will the results be used to improve the curriculum and/or pedagogy of the program?
Each course curriculum is reviewed each year.3. Networking students will achieve at least CNA (Certified Network Administrator) certification and one other certification such as A+, Network+, or Cisco and will be encouraged to complete CNE (Certified Network Engineer) certification, etc.

Students cannot graduate unless they meet the two certifications.How will the results be used to improve the curriculum and/or pedagogy of the program?
We are now tracking which tests the students pass and will look at which ones are taken and passed the most. For the Novell CNE the students must pass 5 tests. We are adding the MCS and MOUS options for the students.4. Applications students will achieve MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) or comparable certification in at least one software program such as Excel, Access, WordPerfect, etc.

What were the results?
Students cannot graduate unless they meet the two certification requirements (students under the 2000-2001 catalog) those under previous catalogs must complete one certification to graduate.
How will the results be used to improve the curriculum and/or pedagogy of the program?
We are now tracking which tests the students pass and will look at which ones are taken and passed the most. We are adding the MCS to the MOUS options for the students.5. Business Education students will achieve licensure to teach in the public schools of Utah.

All students completing the requirements receive licensure to teach in the public schools of Utah.

We are always reviewing/reevaluating the curriculum and making changes as appropriate.6. At least 75 percent of the graduating seniors will agree with the statement: "The quality, availability, and diversity of course offerings were appropriate."

Student evaluations indicate the course content is appropriate (as to their knowledge level). A specific survey was not conducted.How will the results be used to improve the curriculum and/or pedagogy of the program?
We are always reviewing/reevaluating the curriculum and making changes as appropriate.7. At least 75 percent of the graduating seniors will agree with the statement: "I believe that my program has prepared me for post-baccalaureate plans."

Once you submit your report, it will be electronically mailed to the Associate Provost's Office. It will also appear in a new web documents that will be posted to the University's web site. You should print this page as your hard copy.
The Associate Provost will compile assessment reports for the Provost and for the University's assessment program.
Should the department wish to make any changes in the report for 2000-2001, feel free to write on a paper copy and forward any changes to the Associate Provost's Office by September 10, 2001.
