Trustee Bios

Dwayne O. Nielson, a native of Portland, Ore., earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s in tax accounting from Brigham Young University.  Dwayne has been an instructor at Portland State University; a CPA; and spent 11 years with Sprint Corporation, finishing as the vice president for consumer marketing and operations in the Kansas City Local Division. Afterward, Dwayne was the regional president of Nextlink Communications (now XO) in which he was responsible for sales, service, engineering, finance, marketing and customer care for eight subsidiaries comprising the western region. He began at Nextlink West Region as the only employee. Under his direction, the company grew to 800 people and $250 million in revenues in just four years, making up 40% of the revenue of Nextlink. His region developed the corporate strategy, network standards and sales processes used by the entire company.  As of the 2005-06 academic year, Dwayne is the chair of the SUU Board of Trustees.
