EQUIPMENT

REMINDER: Participants should NOT travel on commercial airlines with backpacking stoves or fuel.

This project will include over-night camping experiences. So, in addition to basic outdoor clothing and equipment, every participant needs to have the minimum equipment necessary for those experiences.  Every student should review the equipment lists provided on this page to make sure that all needs are met.  Except for stoves, students are encouraged to bring their own camping/backpacking equipment. For those who do not have equipment or do not want to travel with their equipment Western State College’s Wilderness Pursuits Center will offer some rentals at reasonable rates.  Arrange your rentals directly through WSC’s Wilderness Pursuits office at: http://www.western.edu/wp/rentalshop.html

CLOTHING
Hat(s) (brimmed for sun protection, wool/fleece for cool weather)
Shirts (T-shirts and some long sleeved for cooler weather and sun protection)
Jackets (windbreaker/rain jacket and fleece/wool jacket)
Pants (loose fitting and light colored, nylon/polyester fabrics are best, jeans not recommended for hike)
Long underwear (polypropylene recommended)
Boots/shoes (sturdy footwear is highly recommended, lightweight boots are great)
Socks (lightweight inner socks with thicker, preferably wool or wool based outer socks)
Shorts (option for warmer weather)
Swimsuit
