EQUIPMENT
This project will require participants to caryy (backpack) all their personal equipment into the yurt and the deep snow will require everyone to hike in showshoes. Group equipment will be towed in a pulk, an equipment toboggan designed for the purpose. Every student should review the equipment lists provided
on this page to make sure that all needs are met. For those
who don't have all the necessary equipment the
SUU Outdoor Center will offer some rentals at reasonable rates (below).
CLOTHING -
The key to comfortable winter camping is layered clothing
Hat(s) (brimmed for sun protection, wool/fleece for warmth)
Shirt(s) (wool or insulated, avoid cotton)
Jackets (windbreaker/rain jacket and fleece/wool jacket)
Pants (wool or insulated, ski pants/ bib-overalls are great)
Long underwear (polypropylene or other synthetic recommended)
Boots (sturdy, insulated and waterproof)
Gloves (more than one pair is recommended)
Socks (lightweight inner socks with thicker, wool or wool based
outer socks)
