Students will be staying at the Virgin Island Environmental Research Station (VIERS) in a remote section of the park. They will have opportunities to engage in various marine biology sessions that include snorkeling at several reefs and volunteer work cleaning up at one site. Island hikes will take students to petroglyphs and to a former sugar plantation and slave quarters. History and culture of the Caribbean will be explored along with the diverse flora and fauna of the island. PITP students will also create a lesson plan that they will use to engage with a 5th grade class of local students who will be at VIERS. Participants will fly into St. Thomas where the group will meet and travel together to the NPS site on St. John.
