Lambda Pi Eta

Activities

In 2002-2003, LPE participated in the Junior Great Books reading program at Cross Hollows Intermediate School . Members became the mentors & teachers of a group of 5th or 6th grade students, and lead discussion groups about the books being read. The program has been such a success that Cross Hollow students asked LPE members if they could come back next year. Working closely with the Cross Hollows principal and administration, LPE members provide meaningful service to the community.

LPE also hosts a forensics/debate workshop to help Region 9 high schools polish their skills prior to region and state tournaments. Last year, five high schools participated in the event, which consisted of speaking events in oratory, extemporaneous, and impromptu, and strategy instruction in Lincoln Douglas & policy debate. LPE members served as judges for the events, providing constructive criticism to the participants in the areas where they could improve.

LPE hosts a series of Professional Development seminars that are designed to give members a competitive edge in the job market. Topics covered in these seminars feature tips in resume and cover letter writing, & mock interviews with Human Resources Representatives from the Dixie Leavitt Insurance Group. We have also invited faculty and graduate students from the Hank Greenspun School of Communication to satisfy the needs of students wanting to continue their education in a master's program.
