A twinge of the violin queued the dancers to bow and

the dresses to rustle, swept into the oblivion of the minuet.

The ballroom curved into a phantasmagoric whirl of color

and a racing of heart beats fused with the rhythm in triple time.

Inferior beings became majestic disguises and meretricious identities

lost in feathers, sequins and velvet - his face was hidden to her.

Through the slits in her mask he was a colorful

blur of perfection wrapped as a dashing Harlequin.

Twirl after twirl, flying across the marble floors - her hand in his,

then a lapse in poise; his mask

crashed to the floor and with it plunged his charm.

A twang of the violin - the enchanting music silenced,

the lively room stilled and her gloved hand dropped.

Understand the dance is over.
