UNDERGRADUATE LEGAL STUDIES at SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY

The Undergraduate Legal Studies Program at SUU supports students regarding their pursuit of a career in law as an attorney, paralegal, or legal assistant. To fulfill this mission, the program offers classes that cover a wide variety of legal topics. In addition, the program presents events and activities relating to such matters as law school admissions, the work of lawyers and paralegals, and the judicial process. Opportunities for internships and volunteerism within legal environments are available through the program.

Legal Studies Student Association

This association’s members are students interested in future careers as attorneys, paralegals, or legal assistants. Its meetings and events offer a great way for students to learn more about the law and legal careers, as well as developments in their academic programs. Students will also have a chance to network with each other, faculty members, and legal professionals through this association. All students are invited to join this organization! Intramural Mock Trial Competition

For the first time at SUU, an intramural Mock Trial competition will be held on campus.  Mock Trial involves students who role-play as attorneys and witnesses in a hypothetical court action in a courtroom setting before a judge. The competition is open to all SUU students who will participate in teams of three – six students.  All related activities will be held in the Mock Trial Courtroom in Room 408 of the General Classroom Building and are scheduled as follows:

LSAT (law school entrance exam) WORKSHOP AND STUDY GROUPS

Prof. Randy Allen of the Political Science Department conducts an LSAT preparation workshop which is offered as a one-credit course. The next workshop course begins on February 29, 2012. Contact Prof. Allen at allenr@suu.edu for more information.

In addition, the Legal Studies Student Association is organizing informal, student-led LSAT Study Groups to meet at the SUU library. Contact Christine Taylor if you wish to be part of the group.
