Hillary Blanco-State Legislative Intern 2011
I was born on Oct. 8, 1990 in Salt Lake City and have lived in Layton Utah for the majority of my life. I've been interested in politics since the 9th grade when my Government teacher took our class on a field trip where we got to see new citizens being sworn in. We got to talk with one of the new citizens from Ukraine and heard his story and the troubles he had to go though to become a US citizen. Afterwards we went to a juvenile detention center and saw the other end of the spectrum. It made me really want to get involved with politics so that I could make a positive difference in other people's lives. I'm really enjoying the legislative session and seeing just how many rumors go on about legislators that aren't true. It's interesting that once you really get involved you begin to see things more clearly and understand why things are a certain way. I'm not sure what I want to do yet with my Political Science degree but hope that I can make a difference for good.
