SUU announced the selection of the new dean of The Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education and Human Development on Tuesday after a nationwide search.

Dr. Prent Klag has served at SUU for the past nine years as a professor, department chair, the director of Graduate Studies in Education program, and recently as the interim dean in the College of Education.

“Dr. Klag has demonstrated creative, flexible and forward leadership in the College of Education in academic, administrative and auxiliary functions,” says Abe Harraf, Provost.

As an educator and administrator, Klag has a strong record of scholarly productivity. He remains current by maintaining active participation in several professional organizations through writing, presenting, consulting, serving in leadership roles and conducting research. Klag’s areas of specialty lie in science education, educational leadership, and creativity.

Dr. Klag has cultured relationships, built partnerships, and developed professional and collegial associations with school districts, universities, and state and national organizations.

“The strategic importance of [this] college at Southern Utah University requires a seasoned administrator that embraces our values and has a deep commitment for teacher education,” continues Harraf. “He will [tackle] the opportunities and challenges that are facing teacher education in Utah.”
