SUU Music Masterworks Series to Present "Gloria"

The Southern Utah University Department of Music will present a holiday Music Masterwork Series concert, “Gloria,” on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in the Auditorium Theatre. Tickets are available at the door, online at www.suu.edu/pva/arts or by calling (435) 586-7872 and are $8 for general admission, $6 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $4 for youth, and SUU students attend free with a valid student ID. 

“Gloria” will feature performances by OPUS, directed by Dr. Keith Bradshaw; Concert Choir, directed by Sara Guttenberg; Les Chansons, formerly the Women’s Chorale, directed by Jackie Jackson; and the Symphony Orchestra, directed by Professor Xun Sun. 

Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and “Peter and the Wolf” by Prokofiev will be the masterworks performed on the concert. “Gloria” will be performed by OPUS, the Concert Choir and the Symphony Orchestra. Les Chansons will join OPUS and Concert Choir for several movements of “Gloria.” The Symphony Orchestra will also perform Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” with Dr. Dan Frezza providing the narration. Additionally, Les Chansons will perform several holiday-themed pieces to celebrate the season. 

ABOUT THE COLLEGE 
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree.
