Southern Utah University’s Cameron Levins will make his second appearance at an NCAA Track and Field national championship this weekend, competing in the men’s 5,000-meters at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Levins earlier competed at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2010, running in the mile.

“This is really what we train for all year,” head coach Eric Houle said of the championship berth. “Cam really is one of the best in the nation and has the chance to prove it and run for a national championship this weekend.”

Levins qualified for the meet after finishing first in his heat at the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 13:46.48. The time is eighth among qualifiers, but places him second in the nation after his first-place finish in his heat. The mark was two seconds off of his personal-best time of 13:44.23 which he ran earlier this year in a fifth-place finish at Mt. SAC.

The race is anticipated to be aired live on CBS on Saturday afternoon with coverage of the championship beginning at 11:00 a.m. Levins’ race is scheduled to begin at 12:21 p.m. (MT) with athletes from North Carolina State, Florida State, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Arizona, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma State and Stanford making up the field.
