Southern Utah University’s Department of Nursing is hosting its third annual celebration to honor outstanding nurses in southern Utah.

The “Celebration of Southern Utah Nursing” will honor registered nurses who have excelled in their fields in 2011. One nurse will be recognized in each of the following categories: Medical-Surgical, Home Health, Hospice, Small Hospital Generalist, Community and Public Health, Critical Care and Emergency Room, Long Term, Labor/Delivery/Pediatrics and Historical (retired or deceased). Each year, the nursing department accepts community nominations and input for nurses deserving of recognition.

Nurses selected will be honored in a special ceremony on November 3 at 6 p.m. in the LDS Stake Center located at 155 East and 400 South in Cedar City.

The cost to attend the event is $30/plate or $250 for a table of 8. Funds raised at the event will benefit the SUU Nursing Scholarship Fund.

The Department of Nursing at SUU has received honors of its own this year. For the second time in 2011, SUU graduates achieved a 100-percent first-time licensing test pass rate. SUU students hold the highest pass rate in the state for the exam, which is required for persons seeking careers in the field of nursing.
