With a new conference and new head coach, Thunderbird Men's Basketball also ushers in a new in-state rival this year, after previously competing against schools in the Midwest and East, which dimmed the opportunity for true rivalries the likes of which memories are made. In this new era for the T-Birds, students, community members and fans are encouraged to join in the fervor with the simple battle cry: Get the Red Out.

“The crowd is our sixth man, they truly can influence the game's course,” explained Nick Bartlett, SUU Athletics marketing and promotions coordinator. “If we fill the Centrum with fans that are on their feet, thunderously cheering and clapping, a win is inevitable.”

Thunderbird Athletics will host its annual "Get the Red Out" game this Thursday, January 10, when SUU hosts its new and budding in-state rival, Weber State University, and all T-Bird fans are encouraged to join in the festivities decked out in red, of course. Again, to the SUU true: bring the thunder.

The SUU-Weber match-up will begin at 7:05 p.m. in the Centrum Arena, and the first 500 hundred fans through the door will be given a free rivalry red-out shirt. Official SUU basketball jerseys and an Apple TV will also be given out as prizes in various fan activities during the game.

An Alumni Appreciation Night will kick off the evening’s festivities. Beginning at 6 p.m. in the Sharwan Smith Center Rotunda, free chili and cornbread will be served to alumni and friends of the University. The food is first come first serve, and prizes will be raffled off to all who attend.

With a 3-1 conference record and a second-place conference standing, SUU is coming off its first conference road trip of the season and a 90-77 win at Northern Arizona, though the Thunderbirds then fell short at Sacramento State (64-59). Weber State is currently undefeated within the Big Sky conference and shares first place in the conference with the University of Montana.

On the tails of the Weber State game, SUU will host Idaho State University on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live by KSUU (91.1 FM).
