Criteria for Selection

GPA and MCAT scores.

Minimal acceptable GPA is 3.0, no matter the major.

Minimal acceptable score for each section of the MCA T (Biology, Physical Science, Reading comprehension) is 7. Average is usually 10. Will consider trend as well as best score if taken more than once.

New consideration: Continuing educational experiences in year prior to application.

Extracurricular activities.

Minimum is some involvement in some activities.

Average is 20 hours per week per each academic year to work, volunteer, research athletics, student government, family obligations.

Research.

May be in any discipline. Must involve hypothesis testing. Minimum of 4 hours per week for two months. Average is 4 hours per week for 3 months.

Physician shadowing. .

Minimum is one eight-hour day following through all activities. Average is three days.

Leadership.

Minimum is one leadership experience during 3 years before application Average has three lasting 3 months that require 4 hours a week.

Community Volunteer Service.

Must be outside of courses or work.

Minimum is 3-4 hours per week for 3 months.

Average is 4 hours/week per each academic year.

Patient exposure.

Minimum is four hours per week for 2 months. Average is four hours per week for 3 months.

Diversity Course.

Letters of recommendation.

3 from professors, 3 from supervisors: patient exposure, community/volunteer, research. Letter can address more than one area as long as it is specific
