At todays meeting we began preperations for the Freshman Kickoff and the August 30th club fair. We discussed possibilities for activities that we would like to offer during the first few weeks of school. Scheduling for another Internet Security presentation is in the works and we've also decided to offer a basic computing workshop "Computers 101", which we've set for Thursday, September 6th at 5:00 pm. We have of course also scheduled a LAN party for this upcoming Friday, the 31st at 6:00 pm. Discussion for Computers 101 has been opened on the forum.

We had 11 people in attendance at tonight's meeting. The biggest development of the evening was the finalizing of the Axiom versioning system. Our releases will be named after people who have identified axioms. Our dev shots building up to each stable release will be the name of the next release followed by -postulate1, -postulate2, etc. Our first stable release will be titled Descartes and our current version is Descartes-postulate2. Ryan is currently compiling a list of possible version names which will be posted on the forums.

During the meeting we also discussed some other aspects of Axiom. Tom introduced the structure of the live CD and we also discussed a new installer, which will be written in Python and GUI based to allow easier installer for users with less computer background.

We had 12 people in attendance at tonight's club meeting. The discussion was focussed primarily on the status of our server and our new Linux distro, Axiom Linux. Tom anounced that the Axiom installer is working, and that we're ready to take a snapshot of the Arch Linux repository. The only problem now stems from another anouncment that Tom made. At the moment it looks as if our server won't be ready until this summer. Tom is currently working on another proposal to request a temporary server until that time, because the server is a necessary element in the launching of Axiom. The only other thing we're waiting for is the finished logo, which Brady is working on and close to having finished. Once we have these things we'll be able to submit Axiom to Distro Watch, and make it known to the public. In an attempt to temporarily get around the server problem we're working on setting up a bit torrent for the Axiom ISO so that it will be more readily available for download.

At our meeting this evening we discussed the Internet Safety Seminar coming up on the 9th. Our President Josh made assignments for topics to be covered during the presentation. Those topics include, Viruses and how to protect yourself, Adware and Spyware Phishing and other online scams, The dangers of posting personal information on net, Network security here at SUU, and Linux. Following the presentation we will present our new Forum, and the openCD. At our next meeting we will be running a mock presentation so we can work out the kinks. At this meeting we also created a filer for this event which should be going out soon. That flier can be found here. Following the meeting a few of stayed behind and set up ranks for forum members based on their number of posts. To find out what they are, you'll just have to keep posting.

Note: Because of the Howl this Friday we won't be having our LAN Party. The first one is now scheduled for the following Friday, November 3rd.

At our meeting this evening we accomplished a lot, and came to some decisions that will allow us to move forward on our current project. We finalized a list of programs to include with our open CD, which is once again under way. That list can be found here. The goal for the open CD is to have it ready to release by November 1st, in time for our internet security presentation, which is now set for November 9th at 6:30. In addition to the software we plan on including on the open CD, we've set aside a portion of the CD, which will allow the user to boot into a customized Linux setup. Tom is currently working on the live CD.

In that same meeting we decided that we are in need of stronger advertising. Brady has agreed to create two flier templates for us, one grayscale and the other color. If everything goes to plan these fliers will go out a week from Monday, advertising our weekly Linux seminars, our Internet Security Presentation and if all goes well our bi-monthly LAN party. We have in the past held LAN parties and would like to host something that occurs more frequently and more importantly, something that occurs regularly. We came up with some ideas for games to play. They can be found here.

The first meeting was a great success! We were visited by the head of the department Nasser Tadayon who discussed the up coming open house for the department and he asked us to host a LAN party. Plans were set in motion for a LAN party at the open house and a computer saftey seminar next month.

We'd also like to welcome our new memebers to the SUU Computer Club, its going to be a great year.

On Friday, March 9th we gave a presentation on internet safety and awareness. We discussed topics such as Malware, Phishing, and Internet Security. We had around twenty people in attendance and gave away a DVD player. Our power point presentation can be found here if anyone is interested.

Today was a great meeting! We discussed ideas for the website and got opinions from the members about what they liked and what needs to be changed. A great idea that was brought up was to have a random rotating banner image for the website that would change upon every view. After everyone aggreed to this we all decided to individually create our banners that would be part of the rotating banner idea.

Our president Josh also discussed future plans of a guest speaker, more on that to come.

Next Week: Thanksgiving, no meeting. Everyone enjoy your turkey!!!

Next Meet: Although our next meet is not entirely decided, one idea was to begin tutoring for the Java 1400 classes as they will be starting their class projects and that might be a great time to assist them. I believe our president Josh is looking into speaking with the Java 1400 professor about that.

This week we discussed future objectives for the computer club. Some great ideas were: tutoring, guest speakers, and workshops. We discussed speaking with current programming teachers about tutoring for there classes and Josh will be looking into that. Our president, Josh, also elected a vice-president: Christopher. Next week we plan to work together on the club website.

During our club meeting last night we heard from Michael Grady. We spoke with him about our allotted hard drive space and he suggested that we all send an email to, James Loveland at Loveland@suu.edu, politely asking him to increase our storage space from 50mb to 100mb. Professor Grady also spoke to us about the picture on the department home page and asked that anyone with a good alternative please show it to Professor Robertson. On another note all members who missed the meeting last night please email your names and preferred email addresses to christophermcgahan@suumail.net. Our next meeting will take place in two weeks on October 27th in room 313 of the ELC building. When it is available the flier will be posted here.
